Shown left is
our main breeding drake, here in summer plumage. Below with two
of his male progeny.
Although drakes
usually retain a reasonably rich colouring ducks quite often become
increasingly prone to white patches. This doesn't mean that the
strain is impure in any way; often ducks with this tendency seem
to produce a strong green irridescence in their offspring. Segregating
sexes can help lessen the white feathers, as often they are hastened
by rough attentions of the drakes.
